The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested a man, Zayyanu Halilu, for allegedly sexually abusing a 12-year-old girl inside a parked vehicle in Abuja.
The girl was reportedly found inside the fully tinted vehicle at the Airport Bridge Taxi Park on Friday, October 2, 2026, when operatives of the command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit were on routine patrol.
According to the FCT Police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, the officers became suspicious after noticing a navy blue Volkswagen with registration number KMC567LQ parked at the location with its windows wound up.
Adeh said the vehicle was shaking, prompting the officers to approach and open it.
The police said they found Halilu allegedly sexually assaulting the minor inside the vehicle and immediately arrested him.
The girl was rescued and taken for medical attention.
Preliminary investigation, according to the police, showed that Halilu had allegedly lured the girl to the same location on several occasions, where he sexually abused her.
The suspect also allegedly threatened to harm the girl if she disclosed the abuse to anyone.
Medical examination later showed that the minor was about three months pregnant, according to the police.
The victim is currently receiving medical care and undergoing further assessment.
The police said Halilu remains in custody and would be charged to court after investigations are concluded.
The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, urged parents and guardians to pay close attention to the safety, welfare and whereabouts of children under their care.
The command also urged residents to report suspicious activities or persons to the nearest police station or through its emergency lines: 08032003913 and 08028940883.
