2026 World Cup: Messi leads race for Golden Boot as Round of 32 begins [Top 5]

Argentina captain, Lionel Messi, came off the bench to maintain his fantastic scoring record at the 2026 World Cup.

Messi netted the last goal as the current holders beat Jordan 3-1 in their final group game.

The victory ensured that they took the nine maximum points ahead of the knockout stages.

It also saw Messi score for the sixth time at the tournament.

The 39-year-old had scored all five goals for Argentina at the World Cup, before he was rested against Jordan.

He now has two more than his closest challengers for the Golden Boot, Kylian Mbappe, Ousmane Dembele, Erling Haaland and Vinicius Junior.
