Indigenes of Ibadan under the aegis of Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes, CCII, have declared that any attempt by any politician to disrespect the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rasidi Ladoja, will not be tolerated.
CCII made this declaration in response to a comment allegedly made by a certain politician about the Olubadan.
DAILY POST gathered that a gubernatorial aspirant on the platform of All Progressives Congress, APC, who is also an indigene of Ibadan, allegedly made a derogatory statement about the Olubadan.
CCII responded on Monday in a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Kola Olomide on behalf of its President-General, Chief Sulaimon Ajewole.
The group said recent actions by some political actors had crossed acceptable boundaries and pose a risk to the dignity of traditional institutions in Ibadanland.
The statement stressed that the Council would not tolerate any form of disrespect directed at the Olubadan stool.
CCII stressed that the Olubadan remains a unifying father figure to all indigenes and residents of the ancient city.
“The stool is sacred to the people of Ibadanland and must be treated with the highest respect at all times.
“All politicians in Oyo State are sons and daughters of the Olubadan. They must conduct themselves with decorum, restraint, and absolute respect for the institution.
“Any attempt at casting aspersions on the person of Olubadan and the stool and turning around to tender any apology would not be tolerated any longer, you mess up with that stool, you must be ready to face the consequence(s),” the statement said.
