The National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Barrister Felix Morka, has vehemently rejected claims of a political realignment among key opposition figures, describing the recent development as baseless, news.ng reports.
Morka was reacting to Sunday’s announcement by Peter Obi, a former presidential candidate, about his move from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the National Democratic Congress (NDC), as well as to Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, who has yet to announce his defection from the ADC.
“I’m surprised you call it a realignment. I don’t see any alignment in that realignment you suggest,” he said during an interview on Channels Television on Monday.
He recalled the recent “Ibadan Accord,” in which members of opposition parties allied to oust the ruling APC in 2027. However, with the recent developments in the country’s polity, the APC spokesman argued that it has exposed weakness and a lack of trust among opposition figures.
On claims that the APC was responsible for the crisis among the parties, he said, “Now, the narrative has been that the APC is responsible for all of the turmoil that we have witnessed in the opposition parties. Now, are we now to also suggest that these events that played out in the last 48 hours were also engineered by the APC?”
He described the defection of Obi and Kwankwaso as unserious, arguing that credible opposition leaders should be concerned about initiating ideas for good governance rather than seeking a haven to achieve their political objectives.
He stated, “Look, these fellows are very unserious. And, you know, I don’t know how anyone takes them that seriously.
“These are opposition figures who ought to be concerned about enacting a blueprint for an alternative vision of governance in this country. What are they doing? They’re busy just running from pillar to post.”
He further rejected claims that the ruling party is responsible for the crisis in the opposition parties.
“We’ve caused no problems for these guys. They obviously are the architects of whatever it is they’re going through,” he said.
