2027: Makinde Most Credible Presidential Contender – Daura

The Vice-Presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Alhaji Lawal Daura, has described Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde as the most competent and credible contender in the 2027 presidential election, citing his record of performance, transparency and accountability in office.

Daura also promised that a Makinde-led administration would operate a four-year transitional government of national unity, focused on resetting Nigeria’s economy, education, security architecture and socio-political landscape.

He spoke at the weekend while receiving leaders of the Northern Patriotic Front (NPF) at the APM Presidential Campaign Headquarters in Abuja. The delegation presented an award to Makinde and declared its support for the party ahead of the January 2027 presidential election.

Daura challenged Nigerians to assess presidential candidates based on their track records rather than ethnic or other sentiments, insisting that Makinde’s antecedents placed him ahead of his rivals.

“I throw a challenge that anyone who is still doubting whether our candidate is the most competent to be elected as President should examine his antecedents and performance,” he said.

He noted that Makinde had established himself as a successful businessman with considerable financial experience before becoming governor, adding that his record in public office demonstrated transparency and accountability.

“Look at his performance. His transparency and accountability set him apart,” Daura said, warning that Nigeria could not afford to continue supporting leaders without scrutinising their stewardship.

He said the proposed four-year transitional administration would lay the foundation for sustainable governance and tackle the country’s underlying challenges, while commending the NPF for promoting people-centred democracy and political enlightenment.

Earlier, NPF President, Alhaji Ali Abacha, pledged the support of northern political stakeholders for Makinde, saying his performance in Oyo State and Reset Nigeria agenda had convinced them of his capacity to lead the country.

Abacha also praised Makinde for picking Daura as his running mate, saying the choice demonstrated the ticket’s commitment to tackling insecurity. He assured that the group would work towards the success of the Makinde-Daura ticket in 2027.
