The African Democratic Congress (ADC) deputy governorship candidate in Lagos State, Babatunde Gbadamosi, has urged Lagos residents to improve their physical fitness ahead of the 2027 general elections, saying they should be prepared to resist political thugs.
Gbadamosi made the call in a post on X, where he advised Lagosians, irrespective of age or gender, to embark on regular exercise between now and the end of January 2027.
According to him, residents should aim for a minimum of 70 push-ups daily, 70 reverse toe-touch crunches, 50 deep squats combined with cross elbow-to-knee touches, and 200 high-knee runs on the spot.
He encouraged residents to do as many repetitions as they could, saying the goal was to become fitter and stronger.
The ADC chieftain linked the fitness campaign to the need for citizens to be physically prepared against what he described as political thuggery.
“Should you fail to be ready for the thugs, by being fitter and stronger than them, you will only have yourselves to blame for the next four years, and possibly beyond, because their children are warming up to inherit you and your children as their property,” Gbadamosi wrote.
He ended .. with the message: “Let us work together to Make Èkó Great Again.”
Gbadamosi’s comments come as political activities ahead of the 2027 elections gradually gather momentum across the country, with parties and politicians positioning for contests at both national and state levels.
Lagos with over 23 million residents is one of the battlegrounds for politicians ahead of the forthcoming general elections.
The 2023 general elections in the state were marked by reported cases of voter intimidation, victimisation and targeted violence against people from certain ethnic groups.
