Dele Momodu, publisher of Ovation International and chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has characterized the forthcoming 2027 presidential election as “a game of the biggest boys,” considering the calibre of aspirants vying for their parties’ tickets, news.ng reports.
Momodu, in an interview on Channels Television on Tuesday evening, while examining the aspirants, said they have what it takes to compete against each other ahead of the election.
Expectedly, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), will represent his party, while Peter Obi, a former presidential candidate, is reportedly the sole aspirant for his party, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
From all indications, the ADC will adopt a consensus candidacy, and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is likely to emerge as the party’s candidate.
Elsewhere, former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, who is yet to be cleared on his eligibility, is reportedly making plans to contest on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Momodu said, “Now, I’m happy today that from the South-South, we are just hearing about the declaration of former President Goodluck Jonathan. So, it tells you that the game ahead is going to be a game of the big boys.
“In fact, the biggest boys, not just the big boys. President Jonathan is formidable. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, being the current president, is extraordinarily formidable.
“And then, the combination of Peter Obi and Kwankwaso, if all their planning goes through, is also going to be formidable. So, which means we are going to have a very, very big fish from the South-South, a less big fish from the South-East, and the biggest fish of them from the South-West.”
When asked about the strategy the ADC will adopt, he responded by saying that the party would pursue a strategy devoid of emotions.
Making reference to the conduct of elections in America and how the media make projections, he urged Nigeria to adopt a similar approach, saying that elections are not won by individuals alone but with support from the party.
He added, “Strategically, we’re talking strategy; we’re not talking emotion or anything.
“There is a pattern to elections globally, whether you are in America. That’s why you see that on the night of elections, CNN analysts always call it ‘some election.’
“They know the blue states; they know the red states. Nigeria cannot be an exception. Not even Donald Trump could have arranged an election for himself without the support, the formidable support, of his party and general fans.”
