Palpable tension has gripped thousands of members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Oyo State over the disqualification of seven senatorial aspirants in the state.
DAILY POST reports that the primary election for the senatorial districts in the state has been slated to hold tomorrow (Monday).
Our correspondent reports that 12 aspirants purchased the senatorial tickets of the political party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
DAILY POST, however, gathered that seven aspirants were disqualified while only five aspirants were cleared.
Chairman of the National Assembly Primaries in the state, Professor Mojeed Alabi, made the declaration while addressing a press conference on Saturday.
Alabi, a former Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, explained that only five aspirants were cleared by the party.
He also disclosed that seven aspirants were disqualified.
Alabi, who did not disclose the names of the cleared and disqualified aspirants, explained that the job of his committee is to collate the results.
He said, “Five aspirants were cleared for the senatorial districts, while seven were not cleared.”
Investigations by DAILY POST on Sunday revealed that those who were cleared are Hon. Remi Oseni (Oyo South), Senator Yunus Akintunde (Oyo Central), Professor Adeolu Akande (Oyo North), Mrs Hannah Ogunesan (Oyo North) and Col. Adegbola (Oyo North).
Those who were disqualified are Hon. Afeez Bolaji Repete, Mr Ademola Wasiu Alli, Mr Wasiu Ajimobi, Mr Kolapo Kola-Daisi, Mr Faozey Oladotun, Mr Akinremi Alade and Hussain Yusuff.
Findings by DAILY POST revealed that tension has gripped the camps of the disqualified aspirants.
DAILY POST gathered that the camps of the affected aspirants, who were disqualified by the party, are currently in disarray.
Sources within one of the camps described the disqualification as unacceptable.
“It is totally unacceptable. What is the reason for the disqualification? We don’t know what they are doing. Aspirants purchased forms and they just announced disqualification without tangible reasons. It is unfortunate.”
Another person, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said that his camp will still go ahead to contest in the primary election tomorrow.
“There is no need to panic. They have done their own. We will go ahead to contest.”
