Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Obafemi Hamzat, has revealed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has endorsed his ambition to become governor ahead of the 2027 election.
Hamzat made this known after a meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja with the All Progressives Congress Governance Advisory Council (GAC), led by Tajudeen Olusi.
“These are leaders and fathers who have witnessed many Christmases and Eid El Kabir, so they have experience. I am incredibly thrilled that they brought me to meet Mr. President, and Mr. President has blessed us and blessed the decision of GAC to support my candidacy.”
He described the governorship ambition as bold, noting that his years as deputy governor under Babajide Sanwo-Olu have prepared him for the responsibility.
Hamzat added that his experience in government has given him deep knowledge of how the system works, expressing confidence in his readiness for the role.
“The mission is audacious, but experience matters. I have learnt a lot as deputy governor. It’s a room I know; the kitchen is somewhere I know. No matter how skilled a chef is, you must understand the kitchen to prepare meals for guests. With God’s blessings and the support of my leaders, I have no fear.”
The endorsement follows a series of backing within 72 hours, including support from the GAC and Governor Sanwo-Olu, while the council also reportedly agreed to purchase Hamzat’s ₦50 million nomination form.
While endorsements continue to build, party leaders have maintained that primaries will still be conducted in line with party rules, keeping the race open ahead of 2027.
