Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has said that the party has provided a level playing field that allows members who recently joined the party to contest for any elective position, news.ng reports.
The APC chairman said this during an interview on Channels Television on Monday night.
Recall that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu received his Certificate of Return after he was declared the winner of the party’s presidential primary election, having polled more than 10.9 million votes nationwide. When asked if the party could pull the same number during next year’s general election, the chairman boasted that the president would achieve more than that number.
According to the chairman, this will be possible because the party will leverage students, a bulk of whom he claimed are party members, including their relatives.
He said: “Can you deliver the same at the general election? More than, more than. These are our members. Our anticipation is that when their families, students, just imagine, my own thinking now.
“Most students are like, most likely not being, not members of our party. Not just members of our party, most students. We have about 1.5 million students who are beneficiaries of student loan.
“Every month, they receive 200,000 Naira, you know, as bursary to support their education. Their school fees are paid for them completely. Most of the indigent students, they have their parents, they have their families, they have their brothers.”
This news platform reported on Sunday that President Tinubu had urged citizens not to lose hope in his administration despite the economic challenges the country is facing.
The president, during his acceptance speech, said he shares the pain citizens are going through.
He said, “I shared the pain with you. I know what it takes to reform this economy that was in tatters. If you lost sleep, I lost some too. If you have lost weight, I think I have lost some too.”
“But I have always remembered one thing: that year, 2022, I asked for this job, and you all supported me, and I got it. So, I must do it. Since that night, a lot has changed.”
