23-Year-Old Kills Brother Over Singlet Dispute In Kaduna

A 23-year-old man, Aliyu Abubakar, is alleged to have killed his 25-year-old elder brother, Hafis Abubakar, during a fight over a singlet in Kwangila, Sabon Gari Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The incident reportedly occurred last Thursday along Wakili Street in the Kwangila area, throwing residents into shock.

The district head of Kwangila, Alhaji Ya’u Shehu, told Aminiya that community members rushed to the scene after learning about the incident but found Hafis lying in a pool of blood.

He said residents attempted to rush the victim to a hospital, but he later died.

“Their father is dead, and the deceased had left behind a child,” Shehu said, adding that the suspect was not found at the scene when community members arrived. Their mother, A’isha, had also reportedly fled.

A woman identified as the brothers’ stepmother said the fight reportedly began after Aliyu accused Hafis of repeatedly taking his clothes, including the singlet in question.

She alleged that the dispute escalated when Aliyu began insulting their mother. Hafis reportedly intervened after Aliyu allegedly threatened her.

According to the woman, Hafis picked up a cutlass and confronted his younger brother, who allegedly used a knife to slash his elder brother’s throat.

She said residents raised the alarm, but Aliyu and their mother fled before community leaders and police arrived.

Neighbours told Aminiya that the brothers frequently fought and alleged that both were involved in drug abuse. These claims have not been independently verified.

Other residents said the brothers’ disagreements had intensified in the days leading up to the fatal incident, with the dispute over clothing reportedly triggering the latest confrontation.

The Divisional Police Officer in Sabon Gari said the police had arrested the brothers’ mother, A’isha Abubakar, while the principal suspect remained at large.

He added that the police were working to apprehend Aliyu and had forwarded details of the incident to the Kaduna State Police Command for further investigation.

Efforts to reach the Kaduna State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Mansur Hassan, for comments were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
