A 33-year-old man, Monsuru Musa, has been arrested for allegedly impersonating his father, Musa Mohammed, and writing a promotion examination on his behalf in Abuja.
Monsuru was caught on Wednesday, the third day of the promotion examination organised by the FCT Civil Service Commission for workers in the Federal Capital Territory.
He was reportedly apprehended by security personnel deployed following the directive of the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, at the examination venue located within the premises of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN).
During interrogation, Monsuru reportedly claimed that his father, who works with the FCT Fire Service, was sick and could not sit for the examination.
He allegedly told security personnel that his father had directed him to take the examination on his behalf.
When asked about his father’s age, Monsuru reportedly said the man was between 67 and 68 years old.
However, the father gave a different account, saying he would turn 60 in February 2027.
The discrepancy reportedly prompted further questioning.
Musa Mohammed told the interrogators that he completed primary school in 1977 and secondary school in 1982.
Following the incident, both father and son were handed over to the police for further investigation after they had made statements to operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS).
The circumstances surrounding the alleged impersonation, including the father’s conflicting age claims and the decision to have his son sit for the promotion examination, are expected to form part of the police investigation.
