56-Year-Old Security Man Arrested for Allegedly Dumping Refuse Into Drainage Channel in Ikorodu

A 56-year-old man, John Ehidreme, has been arrested for allegedly dumping refuse into a drainage channel at No. 18 Oluoga, Ikorodu, Lagos State.

Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed the arrest in a post on X, reiterating that indiscriminate waste disposal violates environmental laws and contributes to flooding and public health risks.

According to Wahab:

“Earlier today, Mr. John Ehidreme, 56, was arrested for illegally dumping refuse into a drainage channel at No. 18 Oluoga, Ikorodu.

“The Lagos State Government reiterates that indiscriminate waste disposal is a violation of environmental laws, as it obstructs drainage channels, contributes to flooding, and poses significant public health and environmental risks.

“Residents are urged to dispose of waste responsibly and use only approved waste management facilities.”

The development has sparked reactions online, with many Nigerians commending the government’s action while urging stricter enforcement against environmental offenders.
