Seventy-three Public Relations Officers of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) have been inducted into the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) following the successful completion of a certification and training programme aimed at strengthening strategic communication and professionalism within the Service.
In a statement signed by the Service Public Relations Officer, Deputy Comptroller of Immigration Akinsola Akinlabi, the Service said the induction, held at the NIS Headquarters in Abuja, forms part of the Comptroller-General of Immigration’s commitment to institutionalising strategic communication and professionalising the Public Relations cadre.
Representing the Comptroller-General of Immigration, Kemi Nandap, at the event, the Deputy Comptroller-General in charge of Visa and Residency, Florence Uche Nwanneka, charged the newly inducted officers to uphold the highest standards of professionalism in the discharge of their duties.
She urged them to “proactively manage public perception, counter misinformation, respond effectively to crises, and strengthen public trust as the Service drives technology-enabled reforms in Migration Management and Border Governance.”
Nwanneka also commended the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations for partnering with the Service to deepen professionalism and enhance the practice of public relations within the NIS.

President and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, Dr Ike Neliaku, who formally inducted the officers into the institute, urged them to remain committed to the ethics and values of the profession.
He charged the participants to “uphold ethics, professionalism, and lifelong learning as core values of the Public Relations profession.”
Speaking at the close of the programme, the Service Public Relations Officer, Deputy Comptroller of Immigration Akinsola Akinlabi, said the initiative reflected the unwavering commitment of the Comptroller-General to capacity building and the standardisation of public relations practice across the Service.
Akinlabi expressed appreciation to the NIPR, resource persons and other stakeholders for contributing to the success of the programme, urging the newly inducted officers to “translate the knowledge gained into practical action, reinforcing the Service’s commitment to effective public engagement.”
According to the statement, the successful completion of the training and induction demonstrates the Nigeria Immigration Service’s commitment to continuous professional development through strategic partnerships and specialised training programmes that support its core mandates of migration management and border governance.
