A total of 945 pilgrims from Oyo State have successfully completed their Umrah rites in Makkah, marking a significant milestone in their 2026 Hajj exercise.
The pilgrims, who arrived in three batches, were warmly received by representatives of the Saudi Arabian Government and carried out their religious obligations with minimal stress. Their activities were guided by Islamic scholars from within and outside the state, ensuring smooth coordination throughout the exercise.
Meanwhile, the final batch of pilgrims currently in Medina is expected to depart for Makkah on Tuesday, May 12, to perform similar rites and join their counterparts.
Addressing the third batch before their departure from Medina, the Chairman of the Oyo State Muslim Pilgrims’ Welfare Board, Sheikh Wahab Atere Hashim Olamide, expressed concern over the conduct of some Nigerian pilgrims during Hajj.
He urged pilgrims—particularly those from the Southwest—to set aside social distractions and focus on the core purpose of the pilgrimage: worshipping Allah. He also advised them to prioritize spiritual growth, observe moderation, and ensure adequate rest while fulfilling their religious obligations.
Sheikh Atere further cautioned against unnecessary movement during the day due to the harsh weather conditions in Saudi Arabia.
The chairman commended the Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, for his continued support, alongside other stakeholders who have contributed to the smooth execution of the pilgrimage so far.
An additional 91 pilgrims, led by Sheikh Atere, are expected in Makkah, bringing the total number of Oyo State participants in the 2026 Hajj to 1,036—positioning the state as one of the leading contributors from the Southwest region.
