AAAN’s 53rd AGM Ends with Awards, Industry Reset Call on Future of Advertising

The 53rd Annual General Meeting and Congress of the Association of Advertising Agencies of Nigeria (AAAN) concluded in Lagos on Friday with a vibrant Gala and Awards Night, celebrating excellence across the industry while setting a forward-looking tone for the future of advertising in Nigeria.

The two-day event convened a wide spectrum of stakeholders, including advertising professionals, regulators, corporate leaders, and government representatives. Held under the theme “AdVolution: The End of Advertising as We Know It and How to Win What Comes Next,” the congress sparked critical conversations about the transformation of the industry in an increasingly digital and AI-driven world.

A major highlight of the evening was the presentation of the Rising Stars Awards, which recognised four emerging talents for their creativity and growing influence. The honourees included Tobi Adesina of Insight Publicis, Fuad Balogun of Noah’s Ark Communications, Anita Adekunle of Playhouse Communications, and Olugbenga Jacobs of Ogilvy.

The association also paid tribute to the late Mrs. Yinka Ogunde with a posthumous award, acknowledging her lasting impact and contributions to Nigeria’s advertising landscape.

In addition, Mr. Kelechi Nwosu received a Recognition Award for his outstanding role in advancing the profession and supporting industry growth.

Earlier sessions during the congress featured key administrative and strategic engagements. Reports from the AAAN secretariat and committees were presented, while new agencies were formally inducted. JT Agency was admitted as a Full Member, while Purple Stardust Limited and Omnifique Options Limited joined as Associate Members.

The conference also featured keynote addresses from Tomiwa Aladekomo, Chief Executive Officer of Big Cabal Media, and Meksley Nwagboh, Chief Marketing Officer of Fidelity Bank Plc. Both speakers challenged agencies to adapt to rapid technological change while preserving the creativity, strategic depth, and human insight that define effective advertising.

A panel session further explored how agencies can evolve their business models to remain competitive in an era shaped by artificial intelligence and shifting consumer behaviour.

In his closing remarks, AAAN President Lanre Adisa described the congress as a defining moment for the industry. He emphasised that while the landscape is rapidly changing, the core principles of creativity and human connection remain essential.

Adisa urged practitioners to embrace innovation as an opportunity rather than a threat, noting that the future of advertising lies in creating deeper value for brands, consumers, and the broader economy.
