A senior lecturer at Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, Dr Matthew Uwuigbe, has been found de@d in a hotel room in Edo State after reportedly meeting a 21-year-old woman.
Uwuigbe, a lecturer in the Faculty of Medical Laboratory Science, reportedly died at a hotel in the Mosco area of Ekpoma, Esan West Local Government Area, on October 5, 2026.
According to the Edo State Police Command, the lecturer had lodged at the hotel and engaged the services of a 21-year-old s£x worker identified as Angela Defa Jacob.
Police spokesperson, ASP Eno Ikoedem, said Uwuigbe later sent the woman out to purchase water.
“The woman returned to the room and discovered Uwuigbe lying lifeless, prompting the report to the police,” Ikoedem said.
Following the incident, the police arrested the 21-year-old woman, the hotel owner and the manager. They are being detained as investigators work to establish what happened before the lecturer’s de@th.
Uwuigbe’s remains have been deposited at the Oriaifo Memorial Hospital mortuary, while the police investigation continues.
Meanwhile, AAU confirmed that Uwuigbe was a member of its academic staff but said the incident happened outside the university and was unrelated to the institution’s official activities.
The university’s Public Relations Officer, Otunba Mike Ade Aladenika, also clarified that the 21-year-old woman involved was not an AAU student.
