Abducted Kano Village Head Found Dead In Shallow Grave

The Village Head of Aujarawar Alkali in Gezawa Local Government Area of Kano State, Alhaji Ahmad Yakubu Ahmad popularly known as Ruwata, has been found dead days after suspected bandits abducted him during a night raid on his community.

Ahmad was reportedly abducted on the night of Thursday, September 17, 2026, after heavily armed assailants invaded the community and took him to an undisclosed location.

According to security updates shared by security analyst Bakatsine (@DanKatsina50) on X his body was later discovered in a shallow grave at Danladin Gezawa, according to security updates shared by security analyst Bakatsine on X.

The traditional ruler’s funeral prayer was reportedly held at about 3pm on Wednesday.

A resident of the community also confirmed the killing, although the Kano State Police Command had not issued an official statement on the incident as of the time of filing this report.

The abduction was first reported on September 18 after Bakatsine disclosed that armed bandits had invaded Aujarawar Alkali the previous night and kidnapped the village head.

The attackers, who were said to be heavily armed, reportedly operated without resistance before taking Ahmad away, leaving residents in fear and prompting calls for security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue him.

However, the discovery of his body in a shallow grave has ended hopes that the traditional ruler would return home alive.

The circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear. It is also unclear whether the abductors demanded a ransom or whether any ransom was paid.

Ahmad’s killing comes amid persistent security concerns across parts of northern Nigeria, where armed groups have continued to raid rural communities, abduct residents and target traditional and community leaders.

Traditional rulers often serve as links between residents and government authorities, particularly in rural communities, making their abduction and killing a major source of concern among local residents.

Residents of Aujarawar Alkali are now awaiting an official response from the Kano State Government and security agencies on the circumstances surrounding Ahmad’s abduction and death.
