Abia State Government says it has installed computerized vehicle inspection centres in Umuahia and Aba to test the roadworthiness of vehicles plying the state’s roads.
The state government, which said the inspection centres have become operational, noted that the initiative is aimed at preventing accidents and curbing the prevalence of rickety vehicles on Abia roads.
Abia State Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu, made this known at the Government House, Umuahia, while speaking to journalists on the outcome of the Abia State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti.
The commissioner said that mechanical defects and other faults in vehicles would be detected with the computerized equipment to ensure that commuters and other road users are protected from harm.
Also speaking to journalists, the Special Adviser to Governor Alex Otti on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma, said that staff of the Abia State Passenger Integrated Manifest and Safety Scheme (ASPIMSS), who were owed salary arrears, have now been integrated into the state’s civil service system.
The Special Adviser assured the affected workers that they would receive their salary arrears in the near future.
