Abia Police Promise Better Response To Public Complaints

The Abia State Police Command has pledged to strengthen collaboration with the Eagle Crime Awareness and Prevention Initiative (ECAPI) to improve public complaint management, police accountability and community engagement.

The Commissioner of Police, Wilfred Afolabi, made the commitment on Monday while receiving a delegation of ECAPI, led by its South East Zonal Coordinator, Mr Hillary Nwaogu, at the Command Headquarters in Umuahia.

The visit was aimed at extending the existing partnership between ECAPI and the Complaints Response Unit (CRU) at the Force Headquarters to the state level, with a view to enhancing public awareness, engagement and effective response to complaints against the police.

During the meeting, Nwaogu introduced the initiative and outlined its objectives, assuring the Command of ECAPI’s readiness to support the CRU in promoting accountability, responsiveness and efficient handling of public complaints.

Responding, Afolabi welcomed the delegation and commended the organisation for its efforts in promoting crime awareness and prevention.

He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to the vision of the Inspector-General of Police, which prioritises accountability, professionalism, intelligence-led policing and community policing.

The commissioner also stressed the importance of constructive feedback from members of the public, noting that it would help improve service delivery, strengthen accountability and promote more responsive policing.

He assured ECAPI of the Command’s willingness to work with the initiative to deepen public trust in the police and enhance security across Abia State.
