A Fulani man has sparked conversations online after sharing his thoughts on insecurity in Nigeria and the challenges faced by innocent members of his community amid growing concerns over banditry, kidnapping, and violent crimes.
In a video making the rounds on social media, the man explained that many Fulani people are also victims of insecurity and live with the same fears experienced by other Nigerians.
His comments come against the backdrop of ongoing national debates surrounding insecurity and the tendency to associate criminal activities with entire ethnic groups.
Speaking from a rural area, the man described the fear he faces while going about his daily activities, stressing that insecurity affects everyone regardless of tribe, religion, or background.
According to him, many innocent Fulanis are unfairly judged because of the actions of a criminal minority.
“The challenges we innocent Fulanis are facing are no different from those faced by others. I’m in the bush right now, and I’m scared of encountering bandits. We Fulanis face the same challenges as everyone else. Crime has no religion or tribe. About 95% of Fulanis are innocent.”
The statement has since generated discussions online, with many Nigerians sharing differing opinions on the issue.
While some social media users agreed that criminality should not be used to stereotype an entire ethnic group, others emphasized the need for stronger security measures to tackle the country’s growing insecurity challenges.
