Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti, has approved the constitution of the Abia State Labour Party Governorship Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 governorship election, with Abia State University Pro-Chancellor, Rt. Hon. Agwu U. Agwu, appointed Director-General of the campaign.
The council comprises state directors, zonal coordinators and State Constituency coordinators across the 17 local government areas of Abia State, providing a multi-level structure for the party’s campaign activities.
Otti will serve as Chairman of the council, while the Deputy Governor, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, will be Vice Chairman.
The appointments were contained in a statement signed by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma, on Friday.
At the state level, Agwu will coordinate the overall activities of the campaign council as Director-General, with Dr. Eric Egwuibe serving as Director of Finance.
Dr. Chibuzor Obiesili was appointed Director of Strategy/Planning, while Mr. Kelechi Nwaiwu, SAN, will serve as Director of Legal.
Barr. Onyebuchi Ememanka will oversee Publicity, while Dr. Christian Anokwuru will serve as Director of Special Duties.
The Security Directorate will be headed by AIG Arungwa Nwazue (Rtd.).
The campaign council also provides for three zonal coordinators to oversee the party’s activities across the three senatorial districts.
Professor Udochukwu Ogbonna will coordinate Abia Central, Chief Emeka Charles Kalu will oversee Abia North, while Hon. Chimaobi Ebisike will coordinate Abia South.
At the constituency level, Mr. Innocent Eleogu was appointed coordinator for Ikwuano; Dr. Obioma Orji for Isiala Ngwa North; Hon. Dannie Ubani for Isiala Ngwa South; Mr. Emmanuel Maduforo Ufomba for Osisioma North; and Mr. Innocent Enyinnaya Anyanwu for Osisioma South.
In Umuahia, Col. Emeka Chilaka (Rtd.) will coordinate Umuahia Central, Chief Okey Onyemuwa will oversee Umuahia East, Dr. Aham Uko will coordinate Umuahia North, while Hon. Jerry Uzosike will take charge of Umuahia South.
For Bende, Mr. Ikerionwu Okarimie was appointed coordinator for Bende South, while Mr. Silas Eke will coordinate Bende North.
Mr. Emmanuel Okoronkwo will coordinate Isuikwuato, while Hon. Mandela Obasi and Mr. Kalu Ukwu Uduma will oversee Ohafia North and Ohafia South respectively.
Mr. Kingsley C. Uchechukwu will coordinate Umunneochi.
In Aba, Chief Shaka Dimgba Obasi will coordinate Aba Central, Mr. George Ezeikpe Okeiyi will oversee Aba North, while Mr. Chidi Onyendi will coordinate Aba South.
Other appointments include Mr. Ndubisi Obioha Christopher for Obingwa East; Mr. Jap Nnamdi Onwunali for Obingwa West; Dr. Temple Nwosu for Ugwunagbo; Hon. Paul Taribo for Ukwa East; Hon. Ralph Egbu for Ukwa West; and Chief Okezie Azuma for Arochukwu.
The structure links the state campaign leadership with the three senatorial zones and individual State Constituencies, with the appointees expected to coordinate campaign activities, grassroots engagement and mobilisation within their respective areas.
The newly constituted campaign council is expected to be inaugurated on Monday, October 5, 2026, at 12 noon at the Michael Okpara Auditorium, Umuahia.
According to the announcement, members of the council are expected to be seated before the arrival of Governor Otti for the inauguration.
The constitution of the council comes as political parties and aspirants in Abia step up preparations for the 2027 governorship election, with campaign structures being established to coordinate grassroots mobilisation, publicity, logistics and strategy across the state.
