Abuja Mother Allegedly Kills Newborn Hours After Giving Birth

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested a 27-year-old woman, Precious Yohana, for allegedly killing her newborn baby shortly after delivery in Abuja.

The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, disclosed this in a state-by-state summary of police operational successes recorded on Monday, October 5, 2026.

According to the police, the incident came to light after operatives received a distress call about an abandoned baby in a bush.

Surveillance personnel who responded to the location reportedly discovered the body of a baby boy with severe cut injuries to the neck and abdomen.

Preliminary investigation subsequently led to the arrest of Yohana, who police said confessed to delivering the baby without assistance before allegedly using a razor blade to cut the child’s neck and abdomen.

The case is currently being investigated by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Abuja.

In a separate operation in Rivers State, police detectives arrested three suspected members of a notorious armed robbery and kidnapping gang and recovered six firearms and 58 rounds of live ammunition.

The suspects were identified as Chinemerem Uchiewọ, Michael Ishaka and Gideon Okah, who was arrested in Owerri, Imo State.

Police said the suspects confessed to several armed robberies and kidnappings across Choba, Elele-Alimini, Emohua Local Government Area and Rumuokpe community.

The gang also allegedly confessed to the July 23, 2026 robbery and killing of Joseph Onyeka in Rumuji community, as well as the August 4, 2026 attack on Inspector Womoma Nnanna at Elele-Alimini Junction along the East-West Road.

The officer was reportedly shot during the attack and his AK-47 rifle was allegedly stolen by the suspects.

Recovered weapons included two AK-47 rifles, two pump-action rifles, an English-made double-barrel gun and a locally made revolver pistol, alongside 58 rounds of 7.65mm ammunition.

The suspects and exhibits have been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Port Harcourt, for further investigation.

In Kano State, police operatives rescued two farm labourers who were abducted by suspected armed hoodlums at a farm around Bagauda Dam in Bebeji Local Government Area.

The attackers reportedly invaded the farm belonging to Alhaji Hassan Labe, shooting sporadically before abducting the two workers.

Police said operatives mobilised to the area, combed the surrounding communities and rescued both victims unhurt before reuniting them with their families.

In Anambra State, four suspected armed robbers were arrested following an intelligence-led operation by the Rapid Response Squad in collaboration with Agu-Nechemba Vigilante.

Police identified the suspects as Deñús Agwu, 30; Elvis Udo Effiong, 45; Femi Adekova, 45; and Chijioke Obinozie, 35.

The suspects allegedly confessed to belonging to a six-man gang that specialised in robbing shuttle bus drivers at gunpoint and diverting company goods worth about N40 million from Onitsha.

Police said Obinozie allegedly served as the receiver of the stolen goods.

A large quantity of assorted illicit substances was also recovered from the suspects.

Meanwhile, in Bayelsa State, detectives recovered a stolen tricycle and arrested two suspects allegedly involved in an armed robbery.

Police said the tricycle was stolen from Nasiru Ibrahim at gunpoint after he was allegedly chartered to Maiduguri Road.

Two locally made firearms were recovered from the suspects, while the case is being investigated by the SCID.

In Kogi State, police arrested two women, Olorunada Suzan and Sixirat Moses, over the alleged murder of 90-year-old Juliana Joel, popularly known as Oyohu.

The elderly woman was reportedly found dead under her bed with her throat slit.

Police said her remains were evacuated to a morgue while investigation continues.

The Force Public Relations Officer said the cases remain under investigation by the relevant police formations.
