A Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Wuse Zone 6, Abuja, has sentenced a motorist, Abubakar Halilu, to three weeks’ imprisonment for multiple road traffic offences and assaulting a Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) marshal.
Halilu was convicted after he was arraigned before the court for dangerous driving, driver’s licence violation, overloading, assault on a marshal on duty, seatbelt violation and resisting arrest.
According to the statement on Wednesday by the Corps national spokesperson, Osondu Ohaeri, the defendant was arrested on Monday, September 14, 2026, at about 11 a.m during a Mobile Court operation at the Life Camp Unit Command, Abuja.
The Corps said Halilu, who was driving a Mitsubishi vehicle, was apprehended after allegedly committing the offences and subsequently assaulted an FRSC marshal while resisting arrest.
The matter was thereafter brought before the court for prosecution.
Delivering judgment, Magistrate Theresa convicted Halilu and sentenced him to three weeks at the Suleja Correctional Centre, with an option of a N30,000 fine.
The FRSC said the conviction affirmed the importance of respecting lawful traffic enforcement procedures and reiterated that its personnel would not tolerate violence, obstruction or resistance while carrying out their duties.
The Corps urged motorists and other road users to comply with traffic regulations and cooperate with enforcement personnel to avoid endangering other road users or obstructing lawful enforcement operations.
It added that it would continue to promote safer roads through public education, compliance monitoring and lawful enforcement.
