Access Holdings Executives Join Global Leaders to Tackle Sustainable Finance at UNEP FI Regional Roundtable

Top executives from Access Holdings PLC are participating in the United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI) Regional Roundtable on Sustainable Finance for Africa and the Middle East, which kicked off today in Marrakech. The two-day event, running from May 6 to 7, brings together regulators, financial institutions, and policy experts to chart pathways for a sustainable economic future across the region.

Representing Access Holdings at the high-level forum are Amaechi Okobi, Chief Brand and Communications Officer; Edmund Otaigbe, Group Head of Credit Administration, Governance & Project Monitoring; and Njideka Esomeju, Group Head of Products and Segments. The trio will share insights on how financial institutions can integrate sustainability into their operations and drive inclusive economic transition.

Key themes at the roundtable include climate mitigation and adaptation, nature-positive finance, financial inclusion, carbon markets, and aligning capital flows with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Special attention is being given to strategies for financing a just transition, ensuring that vulnerable populations and underserved communities are not left behind in the shift to green economies.

“This roundtable is a pivotal platform for shaping how financial systems across Africa and the Middle East respond to climate and sustainability challenges,” said Okobi. “Access Holdings remains committed to driving conversations and actions that build climate-resilient, inclusive economies.”

Notable speakers at the event include Mahmoud Mohieldin, UN Special Envoy on Financing the 2030 Agenda; Louise Gardiner of the International Finance Corporation (IFC); Lily Burge of the Climate Bonds Initiative; and senior officials from the Central Bank of Egypt, Moroccan Capital Market Authority, and Kenya Bankers Association.

The roundtable also features sessions on unlocking private capital for sustainability, financing MSMEs for climate resilience, and regulatory frameworks that promote sustainable finance.

The UNEP FI Regional Roundtable serves as a crucial convening point for deepening collaboration across financial sectors, with the goal of accelerating regional efforts to meet climate targets and sustainable development objectives.
