After US strikes, Iran hits back on Kuwait, Bahrain and Jordan

Here are the latest key updates:

  • The US military’s Central Command (CENTCOM)  said it carried out “self-defence strikes” against Iran after the downing of a US helicopter allegedly by Iranian forces over the Strait of Hormuz on Monday
     
  • Iran then responded with a barrage of missiles and drones at US bases in Bahrain, Kuwait, and Jordan. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said the US chose to “test our determination” and that Iran’s armed forces would “leave no attack or threat unanswered”, adding, “Leave our region if you want to be safe.”
     
  • Meanwhile, US Vice President JD Vance repeats the claim that Washington is “very close” to a deal that would address Iran’s nuclear program “for the long term.”
     
  • Israeli attacks continue on Gaza and Lebanon, killing and injuring civilians, including children.
