The Anambra State Police Command has celebrated the promotion of its substantive Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG).
Orutugu was decorated alongside the immediate past Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Nnaghe Obono Itam, at a ceremony held at the Force Headquarters in Abuja on Monday, July 21, 2026.
According to the Command, the simultaneous elevation of both the serving and immediate past Commissioners of Police reflects the Nigeria Police Force’s recognition of their outstanding leadership, professionalism, dedication to duty, and commitment to public service.
The Command noted that during their respective tenures in Anambra State, both senior officers provided strategic leadership that strengthened operational policing, enhanced collaboration with stakeholders, improved public confidence, and boosted security across the state.
It described the promotions as a well-deserved recognition of their invaluable contributions to the Nigeria Police Force and the nation.
The Anambra State Police Command said it is proud of the achievement, adding that it reinforces the Command’s commitment to professionalism, excellence, and effective service delivery.
Officers and men of the Command congratulated both newly promoted AIGs, expressing confidence that their wealth of experience and leadership would continue to positively impact the Force in their new capacities.
