The wife of the Anambra State Governor, Dr Nonye Soludo, on Tuesday visited a 10-year-old boy allegedly brutalised by his guardians in Awada, Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area, and pledged to take full responsibility for his rehabilitation and recovery.
The boy, identified as Chiziterem, is receiving treatment under state protection after a viral video showed severe injuries and burns allegedly inflicted on him by his guardians, a woman and her husband.
During the hospital visit, Soludo said she would ensure the child receives specialised medical, psychological and emotional support to aid his recovery and reintegration.
Speaking after receiving a briefing from the medical team, the First Lady expressed relief that the boy’s condition had stabilised, describing his ordeal as a stark reminder of society’s duty to protect vulnerable children.
She also urged members of the public to report cases of abuse, neglect and other forms of violence against children to the appropriate authorities.
“I visited young Chiziterem at the hospital where he has now been transferred to personally assess his condition and offer encouragement as he begins his recovery journey,” she said.
“I am relieved by the reassuring update from the medical team that his condition is now stable. While he still requires adequate care and support to fully heal, it is heartwarming to see the progress he has made within such a short time.
“Chiziterem’s story has touched many hearts and reminds us of our collective responsibility to protect every child from abuse, neglect and harm.
“I will continue to monitor his recovery and ensure he receives the care, protection and support he deserves. I thank the medical team, concerned citizens and everyone who has shown love and compassion during this difficult time.

The First Lady also presented relief materials, including food items and cash support, to assist the child during his treatment, while commending the hospital’s medical personnel for their professionalism and commitment to his care.
The visit came amid widespread public outrage over the alleged abuse, with many Nigerians calling for justice and stronger protection for children against violence and neglect.
