A 22-year-old woman, Nwachukwu Chidubem Blessing, has been arrested by the Anambra State Police Command over an alleged self-kidnapping after her family reportedly paid N3m ransom.
Blessing was arrested by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad in Awkuzu while investigating a reported kidnapping case.
The police said she was allegedly abducted along the Onitsha-Asaba Expressway on August 29, 2026.
Her family reportedly paid N3m for her release, but she was not released after the payment, prompting the police to investigate the circumstances surrounding the alleged abduction.
According to the command, further investigation and intelligence gathering led operatives to a room in Asaba, Delta State, where Blessing was found on the afternoon of September 18.
The police said preliminary findings suggested that she may have worked with a female associate identified as Onyinye, whose other names were unknown, and an unidentified man to stage the abduction and collect money from her family.
The command said Blessing was assisting investigators with information that could lead to the identification and arrest of the alleged accomplices.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, ordered further investigation into the case.
