Angela Lansbury first appeared on a film in 1942 when she got a role in Gaslight. The film was well-received and it was even nominated six times for Academy Awards. Her next appearance was a major hit and she began gaining attention in the film industry. The film was called National Velvet, and she co-starred with Elizabeth Taylor. Other major appearances at the beginning of her career included Kind Lady, Mutiny, Wild West, and Solomon and Dellilah among many others.

She made her Broadway debut in 1957 in the play Hotel Paradiso. The play ran for 15 weeks and Angela received very positive reviews. She later made a comeback in another play called A Taste of Honey. In 1966, she appeared in a musical by the title of Mame and this role led her to receiving a Tony Award.

The success of the play led to several other roles in films like Thanksgiving, Dear World, Something for Everyone, Death on the Nile, and The Lady Vanishes among several others.
