The All Progressives Congress has removed six senatorial candidates and 19 House of Representatives aspirants from its final list of nominees submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The affected candidates were dropped following the recommendations of the party’s Primary Election Appeal Committee, which were subsequently reviewed and approved by the National Working Committee.
Among those reportedly affected is former Benue State Governor, Gabriel Suswam, alongside five other senatorial candidates.
The revisions cover seven senatorial districts and 19 federal constituencies across Abia, Benue, Ebonyi, Kaduna, Kogi, Kwara, Niger, Ondo and Taraba states.
In a letter accompanying the revised list, jointly signed by the APC National Chairman, Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda, and the National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, the party said the changes reflected its final decision after resolving appeals arising from the recently concluded primary elections.
The letter stated that the National Working Committee adopted the Appeal Committee’s recommendations as the party’s final position on the affected constituencies and forwarded the approved list to INEC for necessary action.
The APC, however, retained the candidacies of several prominent party leaders, including Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau and Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele.
Also cleared to contest senatorial seats are serving governors AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State, Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State and Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State.
For the House of Representatives, Speaker Abbas Tajudeen, Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu and several other aspirants retained their tickets.
The submission comes as political parties race to meet INEC’s July 10 deadline for uploading the particulars of their candidates on the commission’s nomination portal.
The latest changes form part of the APC’s internal process of resolving disputes arising from its primaries and finalising its candidates in line with the electoral timetable for the 2027 polls.
