The Peoples Redemption Party, PRP, has said the All Progressives Congress, APC, is living in delusion over its popularity.
In a statement by its National Chairman, Dr Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, the PRP criticised the APC’s spending on its recent rally in Kaduna, describing it as an attempt to win public support despite the country’s worsening challenges.
The PRP said the ruling party was out of touch with the realities facing citizens.
“The APC should understand that Nigerians are more concerned about their safety and living conditions than expensive political rallies. Spending huge amounts of public money on a rally in Kaduna will not make citizens forget the widespread poverty and insecurity they are facing,” Baba-Ahmed said.
The PRP also raised concerns about the security situation in Kaduna.
“The party expressed concern that bandits were abducting residents from their homes in Kaduna while the APC was holding its rally. It said kidnappings and ransom demands continued to affect communities across the country and urged the government to focus on protecting lives rather than spending heavily on political events,” the statement said.
The PRP further questioned the APC’s claims to popular support.
It also raised concerns about President Bola Tinubu’s health, citing what it described as his brief appearances at the Kaduna rally, and urged him to seek proper medical attention.
The PRP said the government had a responsibility to protect citizens and provide conditions that would allow them to live in dignity, regardless of political interests ahead of the 2027 general election.
“In case the APC insists on living out its last few weeks in power in delusion, it should be reminded that a credible election in 2027 will bring an end to its failed leadership,” the party said.
The PRP also demanded the immediate arrest and prosecution of those responsible for the killing of Sheikh Yahaya Masussuka at his residence in Dutsin-Ma, Katsina State.
“For what it is worth, the nation demands the arrest and prosecution of his assassins immediately,” the party said.
