Indications have emerged that some contestants for the All Progressives Congress, APC, ticket for the AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency seat have signalled their intention to step down for a female aspirant, Sarah Ivie Adidi.
The APC House of Representatives primary election was initially slated for Friday, May 15, but was postponed to Saturday, May 16.
The postponement was announced in a statement released on Friday by APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka.
Ahead of the primaries, the APC had adopted an arrangement whereby candidates for various elective positions are to emerge through consensus.
Sources within the FCT chapter of the party indicate that some aspirants have signalled interest to step down for Adidi before or during the primaries. According to the sources, the concerned aspirants cite Adidi’s widespread acceptability, grassroots connection and growing momentum across the constituency as the reason for the planned action.
Meanwhile, Adidi on Thursday concluded her ward-to-ward consultation tour across the constituency, which took her to all the 22 wards in AMAC and Bwari area councils.
The tour involved meetings with ward executives, party stakeholders, women groups, youth leaders, traditional representatives, and community members, where the aspirant presented her vision for inclusive and people-focused representation.
Speaking after the conclusion of the tour, Adidi expressed gratitude for the reception and encouragement she received across all wards visited. It was observed that the aspirant’s candidacy has received support particularly among women and young people within the constituency.
“This journey has strengthened my belief that our people are ready for responsive, accessible, and compassionate representation. I am deeply humbled by the love, support, and acceptance shown to me in every ward across AMAC and Bwari,” she stated.
It was gathered on Friday that consultations and meetings are going on among aspirants regarding the possibility of presenting a consensus candidate ahead of the primaries.
It would be recalled that chairmen of the six geo-political zones of the APC in the FCT had backed Adidi to represent the AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives ahead of the 2027 general elections.
They took the decision at a high-level stakeholders’ meeting held in Abuja, where party leaders, grassroots mobilisers, and key stakeholders converged to deliberate on the political future of the constituency and the need for effective representation.
