President Bola Tinubu has emerged as the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress for the 2027 general election following his victory in the party’s nationwide direct primary.
Tinubu defeated his challenger, Stanley Osifo, after polling over 10.9 million votes in the exercise conducted across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
Chairman of the APC Presidential Primary Election Committee, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, announced the result on Sunday in Abuja, describing the process as peaceful and transparent.
Speaking after accepting the nomination, Tinubu thanked party members for their support and pledged to continue reforms aimed at improving the economy, infrastructure and security.
“Today, I return as your incumbent President, humbled by your enduring support and encouraged by your continued confidence,” Tinubu said.
He added that his administration would remain focused on economic expansion, industrialisation, energy security and food sufficiency.
The President said reforms in education, power and the oil and gas sector were already producing results despite economic challenges facing the country.
Tinubu also called for constitutional amendments to allow the creation of state police, describing it as necessary to tackle insecurity nationwide.
“We will not rest until peace is restored across the country,” he stated.
The APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, said the turnout recorded during the primary reflected the growing acceptance of the party across the country.
“The mass participation we witnessed is a clear sign of what to expect in the general election,” Yilwatda said.
Party leaders, governors and members of the National Working Committee attended the event held at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja.
