Mr Sani said the president’s performance should be the basis for voters’ decision in the 2027 election, rather than regional considerations.
Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has urged voters in the North to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid, stating that the president has delivered on key promises on infrastructure, security, education and human capital development.
The governor said the president’s performance should be the basis for voters’ decision in the 2027 election, rather than regional considerations.
He recalled Mr Tinubu’s campaign visit to Birnin Gwari in Kaduna State on 22 December 2022, when the area was a major security flashpoint in the North-west.
According to Mr Sani, the president had promised during that visit to reconstruct the Kaduna-Birnin Gwari road and tackle insecurity along the corridor.
He said the federal government had since released N178 billion for the 123-kilometre road project, which he said was ongoing.
Mr Sani also claimed that the security situation had significantly improved, making it possible to travel to Birnin Gwari without police escort.
“When someone came to us and said we should support him simply because he is a northerner, we asked him: can you show us your track record?” the governor said.
“But at this moment, the so-called northern candidate, what is his track record? No track record.”
He challenged the opposition to show comparable infrastructure projects delivered during its time in government, particularly in the North.
M Sani also credited the Tinubu administration with reopening schools and primary healthcare centres previously shut because of insecurity.
He said eight local government areas in Kaduna had been affected by insecurity when his administration assumed office in 2023, with more than 300 schools and 150 primary healthcare centres shut.
“Today, I’m happy to inform you that all the schools and primary healthcare centres have reopened,” he said.
The governor also cited the Zaria-Funtua and Kaduna-Abuja-Kano road projects among the federal interventions in Kaduna and the North.
He said the federal government had committed N740 billion to the reconstruction of the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano road and that about 95 per cent of the project had been completed.
Mr Sani further said Kaduna was selected as the pilot state for a metropolitan rail project, with $865 million approved and $300 million reportedly released for the project.
Beyond infrastructure, the governor highlighted the federal government’s student loan and technical and vocational education and training (TVET) interventions.
He said the North-west had received N84 billion under the student loan programme, benefiting about 414,000 students, while 34,000 people in the region had benefited from the government’s TVET programme.
Mr Sani said these interventions were particularly significant in a region where agriculture remains a major part of the economy and where many young people require skills to improve their livelihoods.
He also cautioned APC supporters against what he described as opposition attempts to deploy Artificial Intelligence in the 2027 campaign.
“The opposition have now upgraded their campaign from Facebook and Twitter to AI,” he said, urging APC supporters to be vigilant.
The warning came as the APC Presidential Campaign Council separately accused former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) of allegedly planning to use manipulated images, fake documents and AI-generated content to discredit the Kaduna rally. The council did not provide evidence for all the allegations.
The APC campaign opened in Kaduna on Saturday, with Mr Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima and other party leaders attending the rally as the ruling party begins its nationwide campaign for the 2027 presidential election.
