The Nigerian Army has announced fresh investments in soldiers’ welfare, accommodation and manpower development as part of ongoing reforms to strengthen its operational readiness.
The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, disclosed this on Sunday during the closing ceremony of the Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL) 2026 at the Headquarters of 6 Division Nigerian Army in Port Harcourt.
Shaibu said improving the welfare of officers and soldiers remains a top priority for the current Army leadership.
He said the Army is constructing the second phase of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Barracks and renovating existing barracks across formations nationwide. He added that the new Depot Nigerian Army at Amasiri-Edda would soon be commissioned, describing it as a strategic investment to meet manpower requirements and improve the quality of recruit training.
According to him, the projects reflect the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening the Army and improving the living and working conditions of military personnel.
Shaibu thanked President Bola Tinubu, the National Assembly, the Minister of Defence, the Minister of State for Defence and state governments for their continued support for the Army’s operational and infrastructure needs.
He also acknowledged the contributions of the Nigerian Navy, the Nigerian Air Force and other security agencies, saying improved inter-agency collaboration had contributed significantly to recent operational successes across different theatres.
The Army Chief assured Nigerians that recently acquired military platforms and combat support assets would be effectively deployed to tackle the country’s security challenges.
He reaffirmed the Army leadership’s commitment to continuous training, improved administration and enhanced welfare to maintain a highly motivated and combat-ready force.
