Arsenal Supporters To Host Saraki, Kanu, Others In Abuja

Arsenal supporters from across Nigeria will gather in Abuja on October 17 for a programme featuring the official unveiling of their club, community service and activities aimed at expanding the team’s grassroots support.

Organised by Arsenal Fans Club Nigeria, the two-day event will also include the club’s second Annual General Meeting (AGM), a market sanitation campaign and recreational football activities.

The club’s National President, Charles Ojugbana, said the programme would bring together members from various states and city chapters to strengthen the association and promote support for Arsenal Football Club in Nigeria.

In a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Abuja, Ojugbana said the activities would begin on Friday with the AGM, where members would review the club’s affairs and discuss future plans.

“Saturday’s activities will include aerobics, a novelty football match and a sanitation campaign at Wuse Market, Abuja.

“As part of its community service initiative, the club will donate industrial refuse bins and other sanitation materials to the market union to promote environmental cleanliness,” he said.

Ojugbana said the initiative reflected the association’s charitable objectives, particularly its commitment to supporting vulnerable, less-privileged and disadvantaged members of society.

He added that the club drew inspiration from Nigerian players who had represented Arsenal, including former Super Eagles forward Nwankwo Kanu and current players Bukayo Saka, Noni Madueke and Eberechi Eze.

According to him, the association aims to improve the experience of Arsenal supporters and expand the club’s following across Nigeria.

“The unveiling is expected to attract prominent Arsenal supporters, including former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, Sen. Dino Melaye and Kanu, alongside business leaders and other celebrities,” he said.

The national president explained that Arsenal Fans Club Nigeria operates through a Board of Trustees, a National Executive Committee and a General Assembly, which serves as its highest decision-making body.

Beyond football and environmental sanitation, he said the association planned to organise an awareness campaign for children with Down syndrome in March 2027 to mark World Down Syndrome Day.

Ojugbana said the Abuja programme would provide an opportunity for members to strengthen their relationships, advance charitable initiatives and expand the association’s presence across Nigeria.
