Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on Monday departed Abuja for Adamawa State ahead of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential primary election.
Atiku was seen boarding an aircraft alongside some of his aides as he travelled to his home state for the crucial party exercise.
The former Vice President is among the leading aspirants cleared by the ADC to contest for the party’s presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Others cleared for the race include former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi and economist Mohammed Hayatu-Deen.
Atiku’s visit to Adamawa follows the endorsement of his presidential ambition by the state chapter of the ADC.
The Adamawa ADC leadership said the endorsement came after consultations with party leaders, stakeholders, and members across the state.
The party described Atiku as a seasoned politician with the experience and national reach required to reposition Nigeria.
The ADC presidential primary is expected to determine the party’s flagbearer for the 2027 general elections.
The contest is being closely watched due to Atiku’s long-standing presidential ambition and ongoing opposition realignments ahead of the polls.
The ADC has also urged aspirants, delegates, and members to ensure a peaceful and orderly primary process, stressing the importance of unity and discipline as it prepares for the general election.
Atiku, a former presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is seeking another attempt at the presidency under the ADC platform.
