A member of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, Dr Musa Illiyasu Kwankwaso, has cautioned Nigerians against yielding to the deceit of petroleum subsidy return by the ADC Presidential Candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, insisting that with his proposal, Nigeria and its citizens would be plunged into devastating poverty and uncertainties.
Dr Musa Illiyasu Kwankwaso, who is also Director of Finance, Hadejia Jammaare River Basin, further warned that returning Nigeria to the former fuel subsidy regime could impose a heavy financial burden on the country.
He said, “as it is now President Tinubu has after the removal of the subsidy stabilise the economy and improved foreign savings which is the largest in recent years, while school children are enjoying massive Federal Government supports”.
Kwankwaso argued that restoring the subsidy could place additional pressure on government finances and affect spending on workers’ wages, education grants, healthcare, pensions and infrastructure.
He also warned that reversing the policy could bring back fuel queues and create fresh challenges for the government in meeting its financial obligations.
Dr Musa Illiyasu Kwankwaso maintained that the subsidy debate should go beyond political arguments, urging Nigerians to consider how the government would finance such a policy without recreating the fiscal pressures associated with the previous arrangement.
Kwankwaso added that today, with the subsidy payments removal, states are able to pay salaries consistently and also pursue lots of infrastructural development projects across the federation.
At the same time, the Federal Government is, without any hiccups, undertaking the execution of massive projects, from Lagos to Calabar coastal roads, to Kano/Abuja highway, to Kano/Maiduguri highway.
He said Nigerians should totally reject anything Atiku Abubakar and his outdated policies and continue to believe in and support President Tinubu’s administration.
