The Australian duo touched the wall at exactly the same time, both setting a new Commonwealth Games record of 22.73 seconds to share the gold medal.
Their remarkable finish came after they had also recorded identical times of 22.82 seconds in the semi-finals to qualify for the final.

Following the race, Chalmers and Armbruster celebrated together with an embrace, while compatriot Cameron McEvoy secured the bronze medal in 22.92 seconds.
Although both swimmers were awarded gold, the shared triumph counted as a single gold medal, with Australia ending the swimming competition atop the standings with a record 36 titles.
