Barcelona Submit Bid for Julián Álvarez, Laporta Confirms Player Wants Move

Joan Laporta has confirmed that Julián Álvarez remains a top transfer target for FC Barcelona, revealing that the club has already submitted an official offer to Atlético Madrid for the Argentine forward.

Speaking publicly on the deal for the first time, Laporta disclosed that he personally contacted Atlético Madrid’s leadership to communicate Barcelona’s interest.

“We sent an offer of a certain amount, and we know the player has wanted to come to Barça for a long time, since he was at Manchester City,” Laporta said.

According to the Barcelona president, Atlético Madrid informed him that Álvarez is not for sale because the club currently has no replacement for the striker.

“I told them that if they have an alternative, our bid is firm,” Laporta added. “We will keep this offer on the table for as long as we consider appropriate. Atlético know our position, and if they decide to negotiate, we will be delighted.”

Laporta expressed hope that Atlético Madrid would reconsider Barcelona’s proposal if they secure a replacement for the Argentine international.

However, Atlético Madrid president Enrique Cerezo maintained the club’s stance, insisting that Álvarez is not available for transfer.

“We had no bids. Even if we had one, Julián is clearly not for sale,” Cerezo said.

The contrasting statements from both club presidents suggest negotiations remain complicated, with Barcelona eager to sign Álvarez while Atlético Madrid continue to insist the forward is not on the market.
