Football Club of Barcelona extended their La Liga lead with an emphatic 4–1 win over Espanyol, with goals from Ferran Torres, Lamine Yamal, and Marcus Rashford at the Camp Nou Stadium on Saturday night, news.ng reports.
Barça took an early lead, with Torres opening the scoreline in the 9th minute. The lead was doubled 16 minutes later, as Torres completed his brace to make it two within 25 minutes of kickoff.
Barcelona, having suffered a 2–0 defeat at the hands of rivals Atlético Madrid last Wednesday in the UEFA Champions League, needed to redeem its image in the domestic league.
The Blaugrana were tested shortly after the break, as Espanyol reduced the deficit courtesy of Pol Lozano in the 57th minute to make it 2–1.
Youngster Yamal, who made his 100th appearance for Barça, made it a special one by finding the back of the net in the 87th minute.
A rejected former Manchester United talisman during Ruben Amorim’s era, Marcus Rashford, who is on loan, sealed the victory for the home team less than two minutes after the third goal.
Espanyol’s attempt to reduce the deficit proved abortive, with no significant offensive moves from the visitors.
With a 9-point gap at the top of the table, Barcelona will need to show increased commitment in their remaining seven matches to be guaranteed the 2025/26 La Liga title.
