A man has sparked conversations on social media after sharing his experience using a Caribbean passport to obtain approval for a UK Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) in less than a minute.
In a viral video, the man displayed his Caribbean passport while recounting how a conversation with a woman led him to discover that he could apply for travel authorisation to visit the United Kingdom.
According to him, he initially expressed concern about travelling to the UK because he did not have a visa. However, the woman reportedly suggested that his Caribbean passport might make the process easier.
He subsequently submitted an application for a UK ETA online and was surprised to receive an approval email almost immediately.
Describing how quickly the process was completed, he said: “I applied for UK visa and ETA online. I got an approval in less than two minutes, less than one minute. Immediately I filled the application, I submitted, I just got a mail that I’ve been approved.”
The man attributed the experience to the passport he used but did not reveal the specific Caribbean country that issued it.
He also compared the experience with his previous attempt to obtain a Canadian visa using his Nigerian passport, claiming that the application took between six and seven months before it was approved.
According to him, a subsequent application using his other passport took approximately four weeks to process, and he eventually received a six-year Canadian visa.
Reflecting on the differences, the man suggested that being Nigerian could sometimes make people perceive certain opportunities as more difficult to access.
He urged young Nigerians who could afford it to consider investing in a second passport, arguing that it could help reduce some of the challenges associated with international travel.
“If you’re a young man and you have money, please, instead of using your money to go to the club and spend your money on all these unnecessary things, use the money to go and get this passport. It will save you a lot of stress,” he said.
He further claimed that some people who had followed his previous advice were happy with the results, encouraging others to consider his experience.
His revelation has generated conversations about passport privilege and the differences in international travel experiences, particularly for Nigerians who often face lengthy visa application processes.
However, travel requirements vary depending on the passport holder’s nationality and the destination country’s immigration policies. Not all Caribbean passports offer the same travel benefits, and approval for a UK ETA depends on meeting the relevant eligibility requirements.
