A commercial motorcyclist is reportedly battling for his life after he was involved in a serious crash during an encounter with operatives of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Iyin-Ekiti, Ekiti State, on Thursday.
The incident reportedly occurred at the entrance of Iyin-Ekiti when the rider, who was travelling from Ado-Ekiti, was flagged down by FRSC officials but allegedly failed to stop and attempted to evade the operatives.
According to eyewitnesses, one of the FRSC officers reportedly moved across the rider’s path in an attempt to stop him, resulting in a collision.
The crash left the commercial motorcyclist critically injured, while one of the FRSC operatives was also reportedly hit during the incident.
The rider was said to have lost consciousness following the crash, with his condition and whereabouts remaining unclear as of the time of filing this report.
The incident reportedly caused pandemonium in the area, as residents and passersby gathered at the scene.
Some eyewitnesses expressed anger over the manner in which the rider was allegedly stopped, calling for greater professionalism and caution by law enforcement and road safety personnel when apprehending motorists who fail to obey traffic directives.
The circumstances surrounding the crash, including whether the FRSC operative’s actions directly caused the collision, could not be independently established as of press time.
The FRSC had yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
