The Borno State Police Command has arrested and charged five men accused of printing and wearing T-shirts bearing the inscription “Tinubu Must Go” in Maiduguri.
The suspects were identified as Baba Aji Gremami, 44; Mustapha Abba Yemen, 28; Abbacha Mohammed Ali, 32; Adam Umar Gubio, 21; and Abdulhamid Mohammed, 21.
According to a First Information Report dated September 29, 2026, issued by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Maiduguri, the five men face allegations of criminal conspiracy, inciting disturbance, disturbance of public peace and thuggery.
The police alleged that on September 25, the suspects conspired to print T-shirts bearing the inscription “Tinubu Must Go” with the intention of causing a breach of public peace around the West End Roundabout area of Maiduguri.
The alleged offences were said to contravene Sections 60, 78, 79 and 392 of the Borno State Penal Code.
Following investigation, the officer in charge directed that the suspects be arraigned before the Chief Magistrate Court in Maiduguri.
A source further alleged that the arrests followed a directive by Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum to the Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Abdulmajid, concerning the T-shirts.
The five men were reportedly taken to court and subsequently remanded in a correctional facility.
However, details of the court proceedings, including the exact terms and duration of the remand order, were not immediately available as of the time of filing this report.
The development comes amid heightened political activities and preparations ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections, with political expression and opposition activities increasingly attracting public attention.
