Fresh controversy has erupted around former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, after his media aide publicly accused the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) of denying him access to critical medical treatment while in detention.
The allegation was made by El-Rufai’s spokesman, Muyiwa Adekeye, who claimed the anti-corruption agency has repeatedly frustrated efforts to secure proper healthcare for the former governor despite concerns over his worsening condition.
According to Adekeye, El-Rufai recently complained of severe irritation, redness, and swelling in his eyes and requested permission to seek treatment at a medical facility. However, the request was allegedly turned down by ICPC officials.
The spokesman revealed that an eye clinic had examined the former governor earlier this month, but his condition reportedly deteriorated significantly in the days that followed. Family members are said to be increasingly worried as the discomfort continues.
Adding to the controversy, Adekeye alleged that two ICPC officers personally observed the swelling and redness in El-Rufai’s eyes during a visit. Despite witnessing the condition firsthand, he claimed no medical intervention was provided afterward.
The situation became even more contentious when an official identified as Henry allegedly informed family members that El-Rufai himself had declined medical treatment. According to Adekeye, relatives immediately challenged that claim, insisting it was completely untrue.
The spokesman further alleged that this was not the first time officials had misrepresented El-Rufai’s position regarding issues surrounding his detention.
Concerns reportedly intensified after El-Rufai’s wives visited him and found him visibly uncomfortable and struggling with the worsening eye problem. Their observations have fueled fresh calls for urgent medical attention.
