Drama unfolded in Aba, Abia State, after two men allegedly attempted to snatch a woman’s handbag, only for their escape to end in a dramatic crash moments later.
According to eyewitnesses, the suspects reportedly carried out the alleged bag-snatching operation using a motorcycle (Okada) before speeding away from the scene.
However, luck quickly ran out on them when their motorcycle reportedly collided with a moving tricycle, popularly known as a Keke, while they were trying to escape.
The accident immediately attracted residents and youths in the area, who swiftly apprehended the two men before they could flee again. An angry crowd reportedly surrounded the suspects, and tensions rose as many attempted to take matters into their own hands. Watch video
Fortunately, officers of the Nigeria Police Force arrived at the scene before the situation spiraled out of control. The officers intervened, rescued the suspects from the furious crowd, and took them into custody for further investigation.
Many eyewitnesses believe the police arrived just in time, as the suspects might have been victims of jungle justice had law enforcement not stepped in.
The incident has since generated reactions online, with many Nigerians praising the quick intervention of the police while also stressing that anyone accused of a crime deserves to face the justice system rather than mob violence. Watch video
