Fresh controversy is rocking the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) as a senatorial aspirant for Edo South, Ehiozuwa Agbonayinwa, openly challenged the party’s leadership, accusing it of sidelining democratic principles and delaying the announcement of primary election results.
The former House of Representatives member, who insists he legitimately won the Edo South senatorial primary conducted on May 29, expressed frustration over what he described as attempts to deny him the ticket despite his victory at the polls.
Speaking during an interview on Arise News, Agbonayinwa did not hide his disappointment, alleging that the biggest problem facing the NDC is the excessive influence of the party’s National Leader, Senator Seriake Dickson.
According to him, no single individual should have the power to determine the political future of party members, regardless of their status within the organization.
“I respect the national leader and other party officials, but one person cannot decide the destiny of everyone in the party,” he stated.
The aggrieved aspirant questioned why the party had yet to officially announce the results of several primary elections, including those for the Senate, House of Representatives, governorship, and state legislative positions.
He argued that if the primaries were concluded on May 29, there should be no reason for prolonged delays in releasing the outcomes.
Agbonayinwa also criticized what he described as behind-the-scenes decision-making, claiming that party members should not have to rely on personal access to influential figures before their victories are recognized.
