Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have pulled off one of the biggest hostage rescues in the North East this year. Special Forces and Sector 1 troops of the Joint Task Force successfully freed 360 abductees from a heavily fortified terrorist hideout. Military authorities say the mission proves OPHK’s growing intelligence and tactical strength in the fight against insurgency.
The rescue happened deep inside the Mandara Mountains in southern Borno State. The hideout belonged to Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad, JAS. For weeks, insurgents had held men, women and children captive there after abducting them from communities around the Ngoshe axis near the Nigeria-Cameroon border. The operation followed weeks of careful planning. OPHK intelligence teams combined human sources, signals intercepts, and drone surveillance to study the area. Long-range patrols mapped the terrain, insurgent defenses, and movement patterns. Commanders used this information to understand the layout of the enclave and the condition of the hostages before launching the assault.
The turning point came when OPHK’s intelligence assets infiltrated the terrorist network. These assets gave troops exact details of where the captives were held, where commanders were located, and planned escape routes. At the same time, psychological operations spread confusion among the insurgents and weakened their command structure. This gave the troops full control of the situation before the attack.

All 360 abductees were rescued alive from the JAS enclave. The operation not only freed the victims but also disrupted terrorist logistics in the Mandara Mountains.
