According to a report by Daily Post on Sunday, June 21, 2026, Isaac Dung, a 37-year-old father of three and survivor of an attack in Rantiya community in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State, has narrated how he escaped death by pretending to be lifeless during a violent raid carried out by suspected Fulani militias.
Speaking through a telephone interview, he explained that the incident occurred on Thursday night when armed assailants invaded his community, forcing him to rely on instinct to survive the deadly encounter.
According to accounts from the affected area, suspected Fulani militias stormed the quiet Rangarasa village in Rantiya, unleashing violence that led to the killing of two local vigilante operatives.
During the same assault, around 15 other residents sustained varying degrees of injuries, while the attack created widespread panic across the community as people attempted to flee for safety.
Dung explained that he was on his way home after finishing work when he suddenly noticed a group of armed men riding into the community on motorcycles.
He said the situation escalated rapidly as the attackers advanced deeper into the area, making it clear that a violent incident was unfolding around him.
He further stated that after quickly assessing the danger, he realized there was no possible route of escape that would guarantee his safety.
Faced with the imminent threat, he decided to adopt a survival strategy, dropping to the ground immediately and remaining completely still in order to appear lifeless and avoid drawing attention from the attackers.
While lying motionless on the ground, Dung recounted that the armed men moved around the vicinity, coming very close to where he was positioned.
He said he maintained absolute stillness as the attackers inspected the surroundings and checked individuals they encountered, a moment he described as extremely tense as he struggled to remain undetected.
After some time, the assailants reportedly left the scene, believing that he had died during the attack.
Dung explained that he waited until he was certain they had gone before getting up from the ground, only then realizing that he had successfully survived the violent incident that had claimed lives and injured several others in the community.
He said: “The bandits were getting close, and I had to think up a survival instinct, and knowing I could not get away from them, I fell to the ground and pretended to be dead. Moments later, some of the bandits got close to where I lay, and I heard one of them tell the others, “arnen ya mutu” (the infidel is dead). Then they mounted their motorcycle and rode off.”
